Groudle Glen, Onchan, Isle of Man

At high tide, diving Groudle Glen is a breeze -- especially since you can drop in the river flowing past the car park and let yourself drift out to sea! Attack it at low tide and you've got a short trek over a very stoney beach. Either way, it's worth it for a wonderful shore dive.

Heading left, or north, the kelp and rock formations provide some awesome swimthrus - you'll find yourself swimming along the seabed as a curtain of kelp flops over you, giving you the sense of diving through tunnels. Turn around and take a look at your buddy - you'll see just bubbles rising from the mass of kelp, and then (hopefully!!) soon enough you'll see this mask popping out from the kelp forest! Photo opportunity!

Heading out into deeper water -- around 10m at low tide, and 15m at high, the site provides great terrain for the ever elusive Lobsters that thrive amongst kelp beds and rocks, and further out into a sandy bed for the bottom dwellers.

If you fancy a longer dive, you can head straight across the bay and explore the southern side, but the best bet would be to tackle one side at a time, where a good hour can be spent exploring each.

A pretty easy and safe dive with little boat traffic (but always the chance of some!) Hardest bit is the walk at low tide - and be wary of strong surge when close to the rocks.
